Steve shared his intimate knowledge for the aforementioned aperitif as we watched the sun go down over the beach in Casablanca. A man of few words, the King of Cool looked me dead in the eye and said “there are two things that make a good Negroni. Ice colder than your ex-wife’s heart, and a gin strong enough to make your toes curl”.
Then, without a word, he pushed a glass of carmine-coloured cocktail into my hand and took a deep drag of his cigarette.
To this day, I haven’t had a better libation. So, without further ado, here’s the recipe for Steve McQueen’s Negroni.
1 part Four Pillars Spiced Negroni Gin
1 part Campari
1 part Antica Formula Vermouth Rosso
Build all ingredients over a large ice cube in an old-fashioned glass. Gently stir and garnish with a twist of orange peel. Serve immediately. Well paired with the setting sun and some inimitable company. Enjoy friends.
